Response to August Blog #4

I really enjoyed Joyce Carol Oates's blog! I like how she can add links to different websites to share with others. I also liked how she can add gadgets to her blog such as the shelfari bookcase.

I am very happy for my daughter to be a junior this year! She has explained to me how much work her junior year is and what a fun year it has been so far. I am very happy for her and would like to share that she has all the love and support from her family to succeed and achieve her goals.

NorCal school still closed after pipe bomb attack!

The purpous of this blog is to inform most of the California residents about the incident that occured in northern California at Hillsdale High School in San Mateo on Monday August 24, 2009. The speaker of this blog is a member of The Associated Press. And the speaker does use the appeal of ethos because we as the audience tend to believe in the credibility of what is being explained. Other speakers such as a teacher at Hillsdale, Kennet Santana, 35 is interviewed and also explains what he saw and what happened at the school. San Mateo police Lt. Mike Brunicardi also quotes some events that occured during the insident. The audience of this blog would be high school students and local families for the fact that they want to be informed about the pipe bomb attacks. What I liked about this blog is that it briefly explains how the insident happened and who it was. Eventhough there is no images you can still visualize what occured. And what i found unique about this blog is that this was an incident not caused by an adult, but by a high school student and who could have caused severe injuries to others!

In the political advertisement about Mitt Romney's campaign ad shows an example of how ethos, pathos and symbols create an effective campaing ad by appealing to our emotions and Romney's credibility. An example of the appeal pathos, is when Romney states "Laws should be created by the people and not the government", which shows that he believes that we should be able to have freedom here in America. Romney also believes that "People are the strength of America", which makes the people of America feel very important to this country.

Next, Romney's campiagn also uses the appeal of ethos. By using the appeal of ethos it shows his credibility. Romney's wife states that "He has sloved problems that some people thought were impossible", explaining how important he is almost as important as God. Through out the campaign the camera's angles are always pointed up towards him as though we are looking up to him as our next president. The music sounds very hopeful which is making the people feel proud of him and making him look like an important person to our country.

Finally Romney's advertisement has many symbols that persuade us to vote for him as our next president. An example is in the picture of where Romney is standing under a building with the word "executive" which shows what he can become. Another symbol is the Amercan flag which is in thebackground through out the campaign. The American flag signifies his patriotism and what he want to do to help our country. And at last, another symbol are the magazine covers. In most of the magazine covers they show how Romney is well known all over America and can prove he will help American become a better country!
